Why should we Meditate
In order to lead a good life, a comfortable life, a person should have a healthy mind and body. Meditation is the answer to escape the trappings of the body and mind to look beyond. Meditation is a scientific tool, which helps a person transcend the limitations of his body and mind to experience the true quality of who he is. It helps one look beyond the dimensions of body and mind reach a deeper understanding of life.
Meditation is good for health. It removes stress by relaxing the body and mind. It removes high blood pressure. It improves memory. It helps to slow down the aging process. The most beneficial part in normal life is improved concentration.
Everyone has complaints of lack of concentration. There is no valid basis for such thinking. It is easy to concentrate on what is pleasant. Difficulty arises when we have to concentrate on something unpleasant. Everyone, even a child can concentrate. While watching movies we display great concentration. At that time our mind appears to be glued to the screen. So it is not true that we cannot concentrate. What we lack is the ability to concentrate our mind on everything, and under all circumstances. Similarly it is much harder to de-concentrate from something unpleasant.
Aware, all that is pleasant is not necessarily good. On the other hand what is unpleasant may be good and beneficial. So we must learn to transpose our awareness as and when needed concentrate on whatever we do, whether pleasant or unpleasant, as long as it is beneficial for us and let go of what is not beneficial. Success in no area of life can be achieved without concentration. Meditation is training the mind concentration and de-concentration. It is the art of letting go of the past and accepting the present moment as it is simultaneously.
